Andrew Jenner, formerly a non-executive director of national construction and housebuilding group Galliford Try and chief financial officer of public services provider Serco Group plc, has joined the board of directors of E W Beard Ltd and EW Beard (Holdings) Ltd as a non-executive director.
The £140 million annual turnover customer-focused company, which reported record financial results last year, operates across the South of England through a network of offices in Swindon, Bristol, Oxford and Guildford.
Andrew takes over from Chad Murrin who leaves the Beard board in March after 10 years of service. Chad will remain a director of EW Beard (Holdings) Ltd.
Andrew brings over 25 years of finance, governance and leadership experience in the housing, construction and business services sector where he has held a number of board and senior business roles.
Most recently he was chief financial officer and co-founder of Global Office Group a start-up in the serviced office and co-working sector. Prior to Serco, he worked for international consumer goods company Unilever and global accountancy firm Deloitte & Touche LLP.
“Beard is an agile and high-performing construction business with a long and proud track record of success going back 125 years and exciting prospects for the future,” says Andrew.
“I’m looking forward to working with the Beard board at a strategic level to support the company’s continuing growth.”
Since 1999, Beard has delivered strong year-on-year growth under the leadership of E W Beard’s great grandson Mark Beard, who has transformed the business from a small local builder to a modern, professionally-managed regional construction company.
During this time, the firm has seen its turnover jump from £18 million in 1999 to £136 million in the last financial year (2016), and profits rise from £0.25 million to £4.0 million.
Mark Beard, executive chairman of Beard, says: “I am delighted to welcome Andrew whose strong leadership skills, financial expertise and broad industry experience in the FTSE100, FTSE250 and private company environment, make him an excellent addition to our board.
I look forward to working with him to drive the performance of the company forward and deliver our ambitious growth strategy over the next five years.”
Beard undertakes design and build, new build, restoration and refurbishment projects, including complex schemes for public and private sector organisations ranging from local authorities, schools and universities, to leisure, commercial and industrial schemes.
