Chartered accountancy firm MHA Monahans has won two major awards in as many weeks.
The Swindon-based firm won the Large Firm of the Year Award at the IRIS Customer Awards not long after winning the title of Practice Growth Firm of the Year at the Accounting Excellence Awards.
Launched this year to celebrate IRIS Accountancy Solutions’ 40th anniversary, the IRIS Customer Awards recognise individuals and accountancy practices thriving in the digital economy and celebrate best practice.
The awards were open to all of IRIS’ customers across the country, ranging from small business owners and payroll technicians to chartered firms operating nationally.
MHA Monahans was awarded the title of Large Firm of the Year, a category open to accountancy firms with nine or more Partners. The award judging criteria looked across several areas and reviewed how the firm has evolved beyond compliance services to capitalise on new service opportunities in the digital economy.
The judges said that ‘MHA Monahans displayed a real focus on staff with 33 trainees who are working towards professional qualification. Growth has been strong for this firm, supported by bringing in a specialist partner to drive growth from existing clients’.
Steve Fraser, partner at MHA Monahans, said: “Over the past few years, MHA Monahans has been focussed on growth and developing the services we offer to our clients in order to add value and concrete our role as trusted business advisors.
“We have worked with IRIS for a number of years and their software has been an integral part to us providing reliable and smooth services. To have won this award, hot on the heels of our Practice Growth title, is great recognition of the extra lengths we go to be more than just accountants to our clients.”
The Practice Growth Award recognises excellence in growth through the use of a number of strategic initiatives to bolster and support growth of a Practice.
MHA Monahans was highlighted for its geographical expansion, with mergers and acquisitions over the past three years developing the firm’s presence across Somerset, Wiltshire and Bath; as well as the development of specialist services such as probate and private tax which enables clients to benefit more from the services they receive.
However, it was also MHA Monahans’ approach to investing and retaining staff that impressed the judges. With regular engagement to ensure that staff are aware of opportunities within the firm for them, as well as being part of the decision-making process on staff-related matters, MHA Monahans’ approach enables them to recruit and keep the best professionals.
Simon Tombs, managing partner, said: “I was proud to accept the award on behalf of the Practice, along with Steve Fraser, James Gare, Martin Longmore and Steve Elliot. The award is great recognition for the whole firm, and the role our team played in the continued growth and success of MHA Monahans.
“Growth, innovation and development are parts of every aspect of the business, however we felt it was always very important not to lose sight of the most important part – the people who we work for and the people who work for us.
“Over the past few years we’ve welcomed many new clients and colleagues from across the region and their skills and passion has also enabled us to expand the services we offer and to make the most of a changing landscape where, in many instances, our role as business advisor plays a crucial part in more than just accounting but also throughout someone’s professional and personal life.”
