Tech start-ups invited to unleash their inner pirate

Be More Pirate founder Sam Conniff Allende

Tech start-up founders will be invited to unleash their inner pirate at a meeting of entrepreneurs next week.

TechSwindon's Swindon Founders networking event will hear from Alex Barker of Be More Pirate, an organisation that encourages entrepreneurs to disrupt their marketplaces to achieve success.

"If 'Be More Entrepreneurial' was the mantra for the late 20th century, then 'Be More Pirate' is what we need as we head into the middle of the 21st, with all the challenges it is likely to bring," says Alex.

"Because of this, whether we’re working with a team, or across a sector, Sam Conniff Allende and I always champion the concept of a mutiny; a moment in time when a group of people come together and agree to overturn the rules or try a new way of doing things, and are willing to hold each other accountable to being that change.

"I’ll be talking about everything that I’ve learnt from our community about what it means to be a modern pirate; how to really challenge mainstream thinking, clear the decks of pointless work, close the gap between intention and action, build strong crews, and tell a great story.

"As one of the crew once said to me: “we’re not in this to be liked, we’re in it to be heard.”

Alex will be joined by Crystal Eisinger of Google UK, who will be explaining how the Be More Pirate approach has helped her as an individual within the Google environment, and also how the ethos was adopted by a whole new sales team she was responsible for launching and the impact that's had.

The event will be held at Work Shed, London Street, Swindon, SN1 5DG on Thursday, March 19 from 6pm to 8pm. Attendance is free. To book, visit www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/swindon-founders-be-more-pirate-tickets-94625295807
