Two colleagues from Devizes accountants David Owen took part in a sponsored sleep-out to raise funds for the firm's charity of the year, Devizes Opendoors.

Associate Richard Hay and partner Joe Bunton were among 16 who slept in or outside St Mary’s Church, Devizes. The pair were among the six who elected to sleep outdoors – in wet and windy conditions.

“It reminds you of the comforts you take for granted,” said Joe. “The thing that kept us going was knowing it was only for one night - some people have no alternative.”

Setting themselves a target of £1,500 their fundraising tally currently stands at £1,900.

Relying entirely on donations for both money and food, Devizes Opendoors provides three cooked meals a week to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Devizes community.

It supports guests with issues related to shelter, financial difficulty and addiction, as well as mental and physical wellbeing, signposting them to specialist agencies to help rebuild their lives.
