A landmark shop in the centre of Swindon has been sold by commercial property agent Kilpatrick & Co.
The firm has sold the freehold of two adjoining properties in Regent Street.
19E, on the junction of Regent Street and Edgware Road, was built for house furnisher, William Wallace Hunter in 1901 was occupied by the family firm until the 1940s.
The building still bears the firm's name in its brickwork.
It was subsequently occupied by Woodhouse & Son and more recently Laura Ashley.
It has been acquired along with former Phones-4- U shop next door at 20 Regent Street, providing a total of 8,563 sq ft.
The purchaser, Wass Homes is intending to convert the upper parts to 12 flats, retaining two smaller shops fronting Regent Street with the flats accessed at ground floor level off Edgware Road.
"We wish Wass Homes every success with this project, which will make the best use of empty space above shops, bringing much needed new life to Swindon town centre,” said property agent Andrew Kilpatrick.
His firm is also marketing the adjoining building 21/22 Regent Street of 3,190 sq ft for sale or to let, and new residential conversions will be brought to the market soon.
